What to expect
You will finish the 200 hour training able to teach a class anywhere.
You will have a deep understanding of the body mechanics that make up a pose and how to put poses together in a sequence to support strength, flexibility, breath, alignment, stress reduction, health benefits and deeper meaning.
You will come away able to teach yoga to people at all levels, all abilities,  and all body types. You will learn yoga philosophy and Sanskrit and will build a daily practice for yourself, using your own body and experiences to become a better teacher.
We will also use our amazing studio and teachers as a laboratory, learning how teachers with different styles find and produce their authentic voice in a class. How different types of cuing are effective, what different types of students want out of a class.

You will learn to pay attention to your own body and to communicate better with other people.
You will learn yoga postures, meditation, and breathing techniques
You will learn to go deeper into your life and how to guide people beyond body awareness into energy, stillness, safety, balance, anything you can imagine.

What makes us unique?
We are a studio that provides a wide variety of types of yoga that are unified by the belief that it is the yoga teacher and studio's job to help people feel safe and supported. It is the teacher's job to help people achieve things they never thought they could, and to brighten their lives. We will teach you how to help people ( and yourself) reach whatever their goals are through specific, body mechanics that allows people to do yoga they thought wasn't possible for them. We will also teach you how to inspire them.

We are a studio with a strong, welcoming community. The yoga teacher training will be the same. We are all vulnerable--that's our strength. 

We have a wide variety of teachers with expertise outside of yoga. Our yogic philosophy sessions will be taught by a philosophy professor. Our trauma informed yoga and yoga for anxiety will be taught by licensed mental health clinicians. Our prenatal portion will be taught by a massage therapist. Our Sanskrit will be taught by a teacher who studied at a Sanskrit school in Arizona. Our bench is deep.

We will meet:
The second Friday, Saturday and Sunday of each month, January through June.
Fridays we will meet from 7-9 pm
Saturdays we will meet from noon-8 pm
Sundays we will meet from noon-8pm

We will also meet every Tuesday beginning on January 15th and ending on June 4th from 7-9 pm.

Additional Expectations
We expect that you will participate in a minimum of 11 studio classes per month. Unlimited yoga is included in the tuition. We require that you take one specific class per week. We will discuss the class with the teacher after the class and discuss as a group at the beginning of our meeting on Tuesday. The required classes will reinforce the learning focus that month.

We will also require that you do a home practice for 20 minutes each day and journal about it. We will offer guidance for your home practice.

You will practice teaching at the studio in small groups

You will be required to attend all Friday, Sat, Sun and Tues sessions on the schedule in order to be certified.

You will have an extensive training manual which you will be required to read along with several additional books.

Myofascial Release

You may have heard about Myofascial release, but don't really know what it is or why you should do it. This workshop will show you. I'll explain how fascia works, how rolling on those little balls helps and you'll see the effects first hand. The myofascial release practice will be combined with light yoga movement.

our Release program works to unclog, unbind, recharge and release our physical bodies from the stashed fear, anger and inadequacy we feel. It is a two hour long program taught by 4 Shine teachers using a combination of deep body work, cathartic movement, mediation and fun to open back up your physical body. There will be kundalini, Buti, group energy work, and restorative yoga meant to ease your adrenals, and wake you up to your own life force. Following Release we begin our second cycle of the RISE program. The RISE program is designed to revitalize our intuition, our strength and our Embodiment as women. Deep down you know you are magic. It's time to turn it all the way on.

Yoga 101

It's scary to jump into something like yoga. Even scarier to go to a "real" yoga studio for the first time. I remember how nervous I was for my first class. But, here's the thing, I love teaching brand new beginners more than anyone else. I'm having a special workshop for yogi newbies, called YOGA 101. It's 2 hours to learn all the basics safely. On Wednesdays We Support Pink

Breast Cancer is the reason for Shine Yoga. It came out of my devastating experience as a breast cancer survivor. Each year, Paige organizes a special event to raise money for the amazing Breast Cancer Network of WNY. I’ve taught at the BCN. It’s a beautiful, supportive place, and what I love most about it is that it creates community, it gives survivors and people who are going through treatment support, resources and each other.

This year’s special donation class is in that same vein. It recognizes that cancer leaves deep wounds and it celebrates that we heal them together.

On the 17th, Paige and Sara will co-teach a class that recognizes the deep wounds of cancer ( and life) and celebrates our ability to move past them with a little help from our friends.

Celebrations continue at The Grange post class, where we will be feasting on happy hour priced foods and special cocktails all evening long.

Shine will donate $10 per person attending the class to the BCN. If you have a class pass or membership, we would love an additional donation, but your membership or pass will pay for the class. Drop in price is $20 as usual.

P.S. October 11th is the 6 year anniversary of my diagnosis. I would love if you could be there to help me celebrate making it through and changing my life.

10am-12pm Special Yoga class taught by all Shine teachers  we each take 5-7 minutes of the class and teach a component--centering, warm up, etc.)

1pm Aerial Yoga

Nibbles and drinks throughout the day. Silent Auction will continue through out the day as well. Auction items are donations from students, Shine Teachers, and local businesses.

Please sign up for the class and arrive early as we have a limited capacity. 10 minutes before the start of class we will begin to allow people into the class who did not reserve a spot ahead of time.

Suggested donation for classes and photoshoot is $15. We welcome everyone! No need to donate if you can't. Proceeds from the silent auction, the class and the photoshoot go towards scholarships for participants who can not afford Shine's Special Programs for Women and Girls.  We will also be collecting material items for the women who take shelter at the Kathleen Mary House in Hamburg.

Session 1: Parents and Preschoolers Play Yoga

This class is an opportunity for caregivers and their little ones to play together while exploring and experimenting with yoga concepts such as asana, mindfulness, breathing, and meditation. Children learn from play, so classes are inviting, and semi-structured, allowing children to join and progress at their own pace. Designed for children 2-4, but siblings are welcomed. A judgment free space to feed your babies. Be silly. Sing, dance, pose, breathe. Connect to each other and the other caregivers and children, as we work to move from the monkey mind towards stillness (or however close they are ready to get!)

Allison is a master's level mental health counselor with experience in play therapy. A 200hr registered yoga teacher, and certified for kids yoga through Kidding Around Yoga. She will be "assisted" by her own 3yr old and infant!

A program based on our women's empowerment program for adults. The program will be co-lead by Beth, Sara, and Beth's 14 year old daughter Ella. The program will focus on helping girls to find their voice, advocate for themselves and support each other. Our aim is to help girls learn to navigate the world in a way that allows them to hold on to their true selves.  Girls 13-18 are welcome. Enroll today

Yoga in the Salt Cave

Coming this summer! Shine is partnering with our local salt cave--Southtowns Salt Cave--to offer yoga classes. The class will be gentle and grounding. There is only room for nine, so you must preregister and prepay (in our studio to online). The salt is amazing! Improves circulation and lymph function, relieves joint and bone pain, is relaxing and even softens skin. I got a membership I loved it so much. Plus its cool in the cave. They keep it at 68 degrees. Normally it costs $45 for 45 minutes in the cave. But, for yoga we get an hour and it's $35. Buy a package of 4 and that price goes down to $30 per class. Here are the links. Reserve your spot.

Allison is a licensed mental health clinician as well as a Himilayan Institute trained yoga teacher. Her lecture will go into the science behind stress, why our brains create stress and how we can combat it.
